It's not like the hotels in Las Vegas need a boost. I mean, it's one of the most popular vacation destinations in the U.S. Even in the off-season, cheap hotels in Las Vegas are usually packed, and even the expensive hotels like the MGM grand hotel and the Bellagio hotel are usually at or near capacity. But the Consumer Electronics Show (or CES) is a big draw, bringing in 130,00 new visitors each year, plus all of the people flying in to man the booths, sell product, set up displays, and hang around shmoozing the customers. What kind of effect does the CES have on the availability of hotels in Las Vegas? Well, according to an article from the AssociatedContent.com website, "It was difficult to get a room close to the Las Vegas Convention Center, where part of the show was being held, because the hotels were full of other people attending the CES." The article went on to state, "The show opened at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. We didn't get to the Las Vegas Convention Center until almost 10:00 a.m. I was surprised at all the people in attendance. The line for the taxis seemed a mile long - I was glad we rented a car at the airport. When we got inside, it was nuts - there were people everywhere." So for the people running the hotels in Las Vegas, it must seem like Christmas, but I bet they'll be glad when CES closes up its tents and goes home.
